The PEARL is a FDA approved semi-ablative laser that gently removes the superficial layer of the epidermis that thickens with age. How does the PEARL treatment work?

During the procedure the top layer of the skin is treated with pulses of laser light. This causes the older cells to dehydrate and separate from their attachment to the underlying cells of the epidermis. This forms a protective natural layer and stimulates the restorative process. The treatment also stimulates deeper layers inducing long-term improvement in the skin. The protective layer peels on day 3 revealing improved skin clarity, smoothness, and softness.

Is there any downtime associated with the PEARL treatment?

You can continue with normal daily activities but may want to avoid any important social activities for 3 days. Your face will be red (similar to a mild-moderate sunburn) and you will have significant peeling on day 2 or 3. It is important to avoid direct sunlight.

How many treatments are needed?

The first treatment will provide noticeable improvement but 2 treatments will provide significant improvement in the overall appearance and vibrancy to your complexion. The treatments are separated by 4 to 6 weeks.

What do treatments feel like?

The PEARL treatment feels like a series of rapid taps on your skin. Typically a numbing cream is applied 30 minutes prior to treatment to eliminate any discomfort. These treatments are well tolerated.

Are there any restrictions to activity after a PEARL treatment?

Your skin will feel and look like you have a mild sunburn. There will also be a temporary honeycomb appearance from the pattern that the laser pulses emit. A topical moisturizing ointment is recommended for 3 days after your treatment. It is also best to avoid sun exposure during this time.
